Bat guano is an excellent fertilizer, but you certainly don’t want it on your clothes! Whether you left some clothing out to dry, or you found some bats in the attic, it’s important that you have that soiled fabric cleaned immediately. Bat guano, like all other droppings, contain harmful bacteria that could make you sick. Here’s how you can clean your dirtied clothes, so they are safe to wear again. If you suspect that some bats are living your attic, give Bat Control a call. We provide safe and humane bat removal services in southern Ontario.
First, put on a pair of gloves and remove the bat poop from the garment. Throw the poop out in a sealed plastic bag, then put it in the garbage. If the poop is difficult to remove, you can flush it with cold water. Next, spray the stain with a stain remover and let it soak according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Alternatively, you can soak the garment in hot water and an enzyme-containing laundry detergent. Finish by washing the garment in cold water with detergent and chlorine bleach that is safe for fabrics. Hang the clothing to dry, preferably somewhere sunny.
Signs of a Bat Problem
If you got bat poop on your clothes, there may be bats roosting in your attic. Look for bat guano on the sides of your home. Check the deck and the exterior walls. Finding guano that is stuck to the walls may indicate that bats are going in and out of the house. Then, look for a small opening between the soffit overhang and the exterior walls of the home. Bats often use these gaps to reach the attic. If you can check on the attic yourself, listen carefully for squeaking and chirping sounds. Look for guano on the floor and use a flashlight to inspect the rafters for bats.
How to Remove Bats
If you have found any signs of a bat colony in your home, contact a wildlife removal company for help. Bats are endangered, protected animals in Ontario, so you will need the help of a professional for removal. A technician can find where the bats are getting inside, then remove them safely with a one-way door. The one-way door, as its name would suggest, lets bats crawl out, but it doesn’t let them back in. In addition to the door, the technician can seal off every other possible entry point to ensure that the animals won’t come back.
Technicians are trained to recognize every vulnerability on a given property. They have a good understanding of bat behaviour and what brings them into the house. A technician can remove the animals humanely and ensure that they will not come back by addressing these vulnerabilities professionally. The tools that professionals use are very effective at keeping bats out. Call Bat Control today if you are facing a bat problem. We provide comprehensive bat removal across the GTA and beyond.
